Heading into the clouds and up through the 950m high 11km long ascent of Tai Moshan, it gradually occurred to me how beautifully still my surroundings had become.
With visibility down to a few metres the peace tuned me into my aerobic system that felt strong and stable. I suddenly had a deep respect for the power and rhythm of my body and its inherent connection to the bicycle. After an hour of climbing they had become completely dependent on each other.
The mutual goal of up, it's so pure.
In that moment I reached that kind of spiritual satisfaction that only us cyclists experience. I stopped and unclipped risking the PB to take this photograph, before pressing on into the calm abyss.
